ALESHA | Knockdown

LYRICS:

Hey
When I lay it all out on the table
Don't know what is stopping me
From feeling like I might be able
To enjoy my own company
Sitting up by my window
Watching the summer rain
The world goes in a minute faster
Than I can keep up with today

Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya soul's feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now
Woo woo woo wow
Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya soul's feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now

Ooh yeah I got the feeling
That something could happen now
Yeah I got the feeling
That something might happen
Inside my luck now
And have you ever asked why
You feel like you've been here before
'Cos only you have the power
To carry on through that door

Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya soul's feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now
Woo woo woo wow
Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya soul's feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now

So when you're up go get on up, go
Get on up don't give it up no
Whoa steady up don't dig it up, oh
When you're up dig it up, no

Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya soul's feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now
Woo woo woo woo
Knockdown
Everybody in the place say what now
Ya souls feeling shutdown
Luck's out
But ya gotta carry on
Speed it up now

When I think I got this song, I'll dance out late
And I got my bad ass on
It's all sure tempting free
I think I own it and you know baby
Life goes on, pure fun it's hard to be played
Can't be so wrong you're gone, so babe

REVIEWS:
x You've all seen The Jungle Book, right? Classic Disney cartoon film set in a bonkers jazz jungle with talking bears, panthers, tigers, vultures and a boy with a magical self-changing nappy called Mowgli (that's the boy's name, not the nappy's).
Well, if there were any justice in the world, this would be in the sequel. It's got the same bounce and swing as that 'King Of The Swingers' song, contains an uplifting message of self-improvement like 'The Bear Necessities', and even features what sounds like a gaggle of ghost turkeys doing backing vocals. This is, naturally, the best bit.
It would work really well in a scene in which a load of lady meercats swan about, dazzling the mancats with their sass and general stuff-strut. Not that Alesha looks like a meercat, you understand. They're all tall and skinny with really big eyes and Alesha is...oh. Fraser M

x Assisted by (...) Brian Higgins (on a rare, reggae-ish day out from Girls Aloud. Paul Flynn

x (...) combines Alesha’s ad-hoc soliloquising and the kind of bouncy reggae rhythm that has served Lily Allen so well. Pete Paphides
