GIRLS ALOUD | Live In The Country

LYRICS:

I'll do what I want and I'll do what I like
When I make a million I'll be outta sight
I'll do what I want and I'll do what I please
I'll laugh in your face
When you beg on your knees

Ooooh, ooooh yeah
There's got to be a better way
Ooooh, and I don't care
I know that when I...

Live in the country,
If I live in the country
Live in the country,
I'll find another way
Live in the country,
Get rich, live in the country
Live in the country,
I know I'll be OK

Every day is a drag
Getting caught in the rat race
You don't wanna be on the street
And every night when I crash
You can see it in my face
I look like I'm dead on my feet

So I'm saving my cash
Gonna live in the country
'Cause that's what I plan to do
'Cause the air's never bad
When you live in the country
The sky is always blue

Ooooh, ooooh yeah
There's got to be a better way
Ooooh, and I don't care
I know that when I...

(Live in the country)
If I live in the country
(Live in the country)
I'll find another way
(Live in the country)
To get rich, live in the country
(Live in the country)
I know I'll be OK

Live in the country
I want the ducks, and a lake
And a family portrait
A pipe and a dog at my feet
I want a stall at the fete
Selling strawberry shortcake
And walls that are very discreet
And when my dull city friends
Slum it back in their bedsits
I'll live like a king every day
I'll be out of my head
But they'll say I'm eccentric
And look the other way
I know that when I...

(Live in the country)
If I live in the country
(Live in the country)
I'll find another way
(Live in the country)
To get rich, live in the country
(Live in the country)
I know I'll be OK

REVIEWS:

x Live In The Country takes the girls into their beloved Drum 'N Bass territory; a sound they've played with three times prior to this album over the years. It's a spikey song, summoning up thoughts and dreams of living life in the country, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, with the spellbindingly sexy Kimberley Walsh singing about smoking pipes and strawberry shortcake. But then there's the following line, which comes from loveable drunken lout Harding, "every night when I crash you can see it in my face, I look like I'm dead on my feet." Slightly poetic coming from a girl who has, at times, been spotted falling out of taxis across Swinging London Town. adem with an e

x Alex James will love this. As the name may suggest it's absolutely ridiculous, the music is all drum n bass-y while the girls ponder on the idea of life being much better if they live in the country. They want to escape 'the rat race' that makes them 'dead on their feet' by saving money, moving to the country where 'the sky is always blue' and they can have a 'family portrait, a pipe and a dog at my feet'. The lyrics are really great, and then it ends with some farmyard animal sounds. Ace. Karinski

x 'Live In The Country' is the album's token drum'n'bass number (see also: 'I'm Falling', 'Swinging London Town', etc). Its curiously oddball lyric is like a less smug update of Blur's 'Country House': the protagonist is weary of stressful urban living, and longs to 'get rich - live in the country'. The song's opening sounds almost like Burial, and there's the rub: the musical backdrop invokes surroundings as concrete and urban as can be, which frames the lyrical flights of rural fancy as exactly that. No Good Advice

x It's basically the sequel to 'Swinging London Town' - waking up with a hangover and wondering whether things might be better with a couple of cows mooing outside your window. There's a great naivety to the lyrics ("if I live in the country I'll find another way - get rich, live in the country, I know I'll be okay"). It should also be noted that this is a drum 'n' bass track. Basically it's completely ludicrous. Ends with the distant bleat of a sheep. Popjustice
